The San Francisco 49′ers and St. Louis Rams have tie game for the first time in the NFL since 2008. After a game that saw the starting quarterback for San Francisco Alex Smith go out with an injury, and replaced by 2nd year backup Colin Kaepernick. San Francisco back up quarterback Colin Kaepernick was impressive in the second half going 11 of 17 for 117 yards.
We also saw the return of Sam Bradford’s favorite receiver, Danny Amendola. His first game back was a good one for the Rams. He had 11 catches for 102 yards. The Rams looked good against this San Francisco team moving the ball with the help of Amendola being back. But it was all for not. The NFL tie is the first since 2008 and brings up the question, why? In such a short season and wins meaning so much it would seems a tie game in the NFL is just not productive to anyone. The league should address the issue immediately! When there is a tie game in the NFL it leaves fans, and players I’m sure, feeling unsatisfied.
The NFL worked out the new overtime rules which, though not perfect, were an improvment Why though didn’t they ensure there would not be a tie game in the NFL? Continuing with play until someone scores would be ever more exciting and add to the already impressive product of the NFL.
I am not a fan of either of the teams who played, but I am a fan of the league and a tie game in the NFL in 2012 is not acceptable. The good news is the league has a history of pleasing fans to maintain the integrity of the product. Let’s hope we don’t see another tie in the NFL again.
