Lovie Smith Shouldn’t Be Philadelphia Eagles Next Coach

The search is still on to find the Philadelphia Eagles next coach. Replacing Andy Reid is proving to be more difficult task than expected. On Thursday the team has one prospect in mind and set up for an interview on Thursday. Former NFL head coach Lovie Smith. The former Chicago Bears coach was let go after the 2012 season where the Bears failed to make the postseason. Lovie finished his 9 season career with the Bears just over .500 going 81-63. Smith did lead the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2008. The defensive minded coach left an impression leaving the players to vent the frustration to the press.

Lovie Smith has a reputation of being a “players coach” and more about defense than offense. The problem with that is the players today don’t need friends they need a boss. This mentality is why Lovie Smith is a terrible fit for to be the Philadelphia Eagles next coach. The Eagles have a ton of offensive and defensive talent that need a strong personality to demand respect and performance. Andy Reid was a great coach in Philadelphia he just lost his voice and his move was good for everyone. The team needs a Belichick style coach who won’t tolerate the diva qualities that the Eagles players seem to have. Michael Vick called out the players saying “I’ve never been around people who don’t show up to play”.

The locker room is a mess in Philadelphia and the team needs discipline and structure. The amount of free agents the Eagles acquired brought to many personalities and not enough leadership. The Philadelphia Eagles next coach may be Lovie Smith but that will be a recipe for disaster. The NFL is a business first and if Lovie Smith couldn’t lead the Bears to the post season in Chicago and that offense, he has no chance of cleaning up the mess in Philadelphia.

Lovie Smith will interview for the Philadelphia Eagles head coaching vacancy on Thursday. With Chip Kelly having decided to remain at Oregon, the Eagles search remains wide open as they look to replace Andy Reid….More at Eagles coaching rumors: Lovie Smith to interview Thursday …

Rumors of who will be the Philadelphia Eagles next coach continue in the early part of 2013 and most likely will continue until the end of February. The Eagles need to pass on Lovie Smith and focus on a coach like Jay Gruden. The fan base won’t give the franchise a pass so they better choose the Philadelphia Eagles next coach carefully.
