Philadelphia Eagles Update Michael Vick Status But Trade Is Likely

Reports from Philadelphia were confirmed, Eagles update Michael Vick status, QB stays on team’s roster. Philadelphia had to pay Vick $3 million dollars if he wasn’t released by end of business yesterday. Jeffrey Lurie knows Vick will carry great trade value this offseason. Eagles first year NFL head coach, Chip Kelly, is still not talking about Vick’s possible roll on the team. Sources around the Eagles organization think Vick could be used in a trade.

Due to offset language in his contract, Philadelphia can release Vick by March 12th with no financial penalty. When Eagles update Michael Vick Status next, it will be trade related. Dan Hanzus, NFL.com, reported Dennis Dixon’s agent told The Baltimore Sun they are in talk with the team. Dixon spent 2012 on the Ravens scout team, and played for Kelly at Oregon.

Why did Eagles update Michael Vick status on the roster, and paying $3 million? They know that their is a shortage of talented quarterbacks, and teams will pay for Vick. It won’t be the $15 million Philadelphia would pay him, and it doesn’t need to be. Chip Kelly must have a plan, he is aware that Eagles fans expect results in 2013.

A concern for the Eagles, if they expect trade value, are the back to back injuries Vick would be coming off of. If no team takes shows interest in the next few weeks, and then have to cut him, that’s a $3 million hit. I don’t see that happening, Vick still has stock in the NFL as a starting quarterback, how much isn’t known. An early prediction of where Vick goes? How do you think he would look in a Jacksonville Jaguars uniform? That’s just pure speculation, but leave a comment on what you would do with Vick.

By not releasing Vick by Wednesday, the Eagles guarantee $3 million to Vick. More important, they gave themselves wiggle room for his short-term future in Philadelphia…More at Eagles won’t cut Michael Vick by $3M deadline Wednesday – CBSSports.com (blog)

Quick side note, came across this article the other day. It made me realize how fast things change. In 2010 nobody knew if Vick would play in the NFL again. Today, Eagles update Michael Vick status after signing him to a $100 million contract. Amazing how things work out.

-Don’t forget to comment on what you would do with Vick if you were Jeffrey Lurie.

I would trade Vick, he hasn’t proven he can stay health, and the turnovers scare me. There are a lot of teams that need a quarterback though.
