Chicago Bears 2013 Season Early Look
The Chicago Bears 2013 season will be the season Jay Cutler has to step up. The NFL is a quarterback driven league and the Bears haven’t gotten quality leadership from Cutler. Since adding Brandon Marshall last season, Cutler hasn’t improved. Marshall on the other hand did well, finishing 3rd in the NFL for receiving yards. (1,508). If the Chicago Bears 2013 season is another dud, it won’t be because of Brandon Marshall.
Most Chicago Bears fans say “He had no protection!” or “Cutler had no weapons!”. The truth is the numbers tell a far different story. Jay Cutler was sacked 38 times in 2012. That was 5th most in the NFL but, take a look at production for the other 4 NFL quarterbacks that were sacked more often.
Jay Cutler Production Comparison
As you can see other quarterbacks that were sacked more than Cutler had far better production. In fact, Andrew Luck lead the Colts to the postseason as a rookie with one veteran receiver and a bunch of rookies. Luck’s rating was lower but, he also threw the ball 193 more times than Cutler. Andrew Luck had to win shootout games that Cutler would have never been in.
The 4 quarterbacks averaged almost 29 TD’s compared to the 19 Chicago got from Cutler.Of the 4 quarterbacks that endured more sacks, only Luck has a lower rating completion percentage. That should be expected when you throw that many times.
Jay Cutler has had enough time to make his résumé, and it’s not that impressive. Tony Romo is crucified in Dallas as a “bad NFL quarterback” but, he destroys Cutler’s performance in every significant stat out there.
Dallas was 6th in YPG (374.6), 3rd Passing Yards (295.6), and 31st in Rushing (79.1). How did Chicago and Cutler fair? Not so well. 28th in YPG (310.6), 29th Passing Yards (187.4), and 10th in Rushing (123.1). Chicago had better rushing, yet still finished near the bottom of all passing stats.
At some point if Bears Fans want to win they have two options:
1. Accept Cutler for what he is, an average NFL quarterback, and get someone better.
2. Continue to blame everything else and continue to miss the NFL Playoffs.
Jay Cutler could change the Chicago Bears 2013 season if he finds a way, like other great NFL quarterbacks, to win in spite of the teams shortcomings
