Xiaomi will be revealing their latest Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus which now comes with an 18:9 Full View display. The Redmi 5 Plus, on the flip side, might come with Snapdragon 625 SoC on board. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will have 5.7-inch display while Redmi 5 Plus will support a larger 5.9-inch display. Ahead to the retailer's official announcement, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 with 16GB storage is priced at $199.99 approximately Rs 13,000 and the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus with 32GB storage is priced at $249.99 approximately Rs 16,000. Both the new smartphones will be available in Pink, Gold, Blue, and Black.
Successor to the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, the smartphone comes with a metal unibody design. Interestingly the Rs 4,999 price tag for the 2GB RAM/16GB internal storage variant will be only valid for the first five million devices.
More details should be revealed by end of today and these are the biggest screens to be fitted on the budget Redmi series.
Apart from that, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be powered by the 1.8GHz processor, which might well be the Snapdragon 450 SoC. The pricing scheme of both the devices make the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus among the cheapest smartphones in the market to sport 18:9 aspect ratio.
In terms of camera, it mounts a 13MP camera + Depth editor, ƒ/2.0 aperture, color balancing dual LED flash, 8X digital zoom for photos, and an 8MP front-snapper with wide-angle lens, f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. Additionally, the company also promoted the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi 5, with a few video teasers.
In terms of rumoured specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 would feature a 5.9-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with a 2160x1080 pixels resolution.
Both the phones come with a Snapdragon octa-core CPU. Specifically, Xiaomi has installed a 3300mAh battery into Redmi 5 while the Redmi 5 Plus features a larger 4000mAh battery.
