Having been drawn alongside Iceland, Nigeria and Croatia in Group D of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Messi admits says Argentina must improve on their game if they are to challenge for the World Cup title in Russia.

Lionel Messi insists Gonzalo Higuain "is one of the best centre-forwards in the world and he needs to be in the Argentina squad".

"It hurts a lot to have gone to three finals and be so criticised". I want them to grow up in a calm place, being able to enjoy life with security.

A secret clause in his deal allows the 30-year-old to offer his opinion on who the Catalan giants should attempt to lure to Spain's north eastern region and, with Barca planning to bring Coutinho in, offered his verdict on that particular chase.

"He is suffering for the national team, but he must be in it", he told TyC Sports. He wants to finish his career with Barcelona.

Lionel Messi has demanded for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain to be recalled by Super Eagles World Cup rivals Argentina for Russian Federation 2018 because he is "one of the best strikers in the world". The criticism went beyond normal and went beyond football.

"For me he is one of the best number nines in the world".

It was Argentina's third major final defeat in as many years, and Messi said at the time, per BBC Sport: "For me, the national team is over".

The Argentine felt that bitterness has led to a certain kind of burden that is not easy to deal with and said: "If Argentina don't do well in this World Cup, we will all have to disappear from the national team".
