"If you were living in my house, you'd have thought everybody in that house graduated from FSU, and none of us did", Taggart said.
Forty-eight hours later, Taggart's dream became a reality.
There was no other way, Taggart said during Wednesday's press conference. Florida State lost former head coach Jimbo Fisher last Thursday to the head coaching vacancy at Texas A&M after he spent eight years at the helm.
Taggart had been recruiting for OR earlier this week and pledged he'd be with the program long-term after his name was originally linked to the FSU job.
He has a 47-50 overall record as a head coach.
Just 12 days until the Las Vegas Bowl and OR head coach Willie Taggart is leaving the Pacific Northwest for the Atlantic Coast.
Taggart's previous head coaching stints came at Western Kentucky, South Florida and OR, where he spent just one season and went 7-5 this year before accepting the job at Florida State.
"That's a bonus, but that's not where you start because that narrows the pool", Mullens said on the importance of candidates having a tie to the program after getting burned by Taggart.
"If you live in the state".
"Freshman safety Nick Pickett tweeted that "(Taggart) is a liar, then gone cry (in) front of the team like we gone feel bad for em".
The 41-year old Bradenton native coached at South Florida for four seasons before going to Oregon. The Seminoles will play December 27 against Southern Miss in the Independence Bowl, where interim head coach Odell Haggins will coach the team.
Safe to say that Taggart won't be welcomed in OR anytime soon.
Oregon's class, which was ranked No. 1 by Scout before Taggart was courted by Florida State, has slipped to No. 9 with four prospects decommitting.
"This is not a rebuild, it's a realignment. They wanted it. I know he's going to do a good job here, and just to look up there and see my baby boy.it's going to be a good ride". "We want to bring people together to win championships", Taggart said. We're going to go out and find them and find the right guys, the right guys that are going to come here and do the right things. "We're going to go out and do something (about it)".
The person says Taggart has called a team meeting to inform his OR players he is heading to Tallahassee to replace Jimbo Fisher.
"I apologized (to everyone at Oregon) before I left. I know this is hard for him, hard for my family, moving once again". "I feel bad about that", Taggart said. "When he expressed this was his dream job, that did it for me". And you have to be from Florida to really understand. I wanted to come here and play.
