Directed by former Entourage actor Kevin Connolly, using a script penned by Lem Dobbs and Leo Rossi, Gotti began shooting in July of a year ago.

His real-life wife, Kelly Preston portrays his wife in the film, Victoria Gotti.

Lionsgate has sold the mafia movie back to the production company Emmett/Furla/Oasis, killing the film's December 15 domestic release, according to reports on Tuesday.

The film spans several decades of Gotti's life, showing his rise from poverty to becoming the leader of the powerful Gambino crime family in New York City. By contrast, Gotti's producers actually asked the distributor to sell them back the rights to the film, in order to try and pursue a wide theatrical release.
