Israel closed the Gilboa Crossing in the northern West Bank after Palestinians threw rocks at it during a demonstration, the Israeli Defense Ministry said Thursday. "The IDF holds Hamas responsible for the hostile activity perpetrated against Israel from the Gaza Strip", an army statement said.
Around two hours later the army said that another rocket, fired form the enclave's north, exploded in southern Israel.
No group in Gaza took immediate responsibility for the launch.
Trump's announcement, which was warmly received by Israel, overturns decades of precedent and runs counter to worldwide consensus, with no other country now taking the same stance.
Medical sources in Gaza told Ma'an that Muhammad Saleh Haddaf was severely injured and left bed ridden after an Israeli airstrike hit his home on 8 August 2014, killing four of his family members and injuring several others.
The Palestinian Authority called for a general strike in Palestinian cities as a result of Trump's declaration, while Hamas has taken a harder line and is advocating for a new Palestinian uprising.
Trump also said the United States would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, though he set no timetable for that.
Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since the 1967 Middle East war.
