Photo of cashier helping nervous man count change goes viral

Spring Herbison Bowlin posted a photo to Facebook with a story about what happened at the retailer last Thursday in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

"This gentleman's items were scanned and he was given the total", she wrote in a Facebook post.

Bowlin said, "He miscounts and starts to get flustered".

She said his hands and voice were shaking as he pulled out handfuls of coins from his pockets.

As the apologizing continued, a Walmart cashier soothed the man's nerves by counting the change together.

The patient cashier intervened and said, "This is not a problem, honey".

"I'm sorry", the man said.

"He continues to apologize to both of us as we reassure him it's okay". A number of comments on the post thanked the cashier for her kindness while others thanked Bowlin for sharing the encounter.

"She shakes her head and replies, 'You shouldn't have to thank me, baby".

The cashier intervened and assured him that everything was going to be okay. "As the daughter, sister, wife, and mother of proud Southern men, I didn't want to wound his pride". "In a world where we are constantly told how bad things are, it gave me hope", she said. "Compassion like that has a way of changing hearts". But no worries, according to the cashier.
