"Justice League" Disappointing Compared to the Impressive Opening for "Wonder"

Meanwhile, DCEU's figures are nowhere near the box office numbers of Marvel, which opened with $207.4 million for "The Avengers", and $191.3 million for "Avengers: Age of Ultron". Justice League also managed to gross $8.8 million in South Korea (beating Wonder Woman's gross by 4 percent), $5.8 million in Indonesia (lagging behind Batman V Superman), $5.8 million in the Philippines (surpassing Thor 3's gross by 46 percent), and $4.3 million in Taiwan (coming in behind Wonder Woman), with the film expected to open in Japan on Thursday, November 23.

The fifth installment of the DC Extended Universe is the first movie from the franchise to hit below the $100 million domestic debut, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Justice League did not crack the $100 million threshold in its opening weekend, opening at a lower-than-expected $96 million at the USA box office. There is no question that Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman earned DC and Warner Bros. a hell of a lot of good will when it was released this past summer, but Justice League has sadly been a questionable entity for a while now - and not just because of the aforementioned behind-the-scenes issues/hurdles.

After thundering to the top spot last week, "Thor: Ragnarok" slipped into third place in its third weekend in cinemas, taking $21.8 million.

This is actually an old comic book trick: writers know that you are already on board for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

A personal tragedy caused Zack Snyder to step down in May, just as Justice League was about to undergo a round of reshoots, and Avengers director Joss Whedon stepped in.

The sluggish opening for the film, which stars Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, is a bit concerning for Warner Bros.

Superhero films are a big hit nowadays, so it came as a huge shock when "Justice League", Warner Bros.' highly anticipated superhero team-up, only raked in an estimated $96 million in the USA and Canada box office during its opening weekend.

For years fans have imagined Justice League being a blockbuster of epic proportion - finally bringing together some of the most iconic heroes of all time together on the big screen. WB needs Justice League to cross $600 million in order to be profitable.

It is a term mostly used to describe a style that doesn't take itself too seriously and leans into the escapist side of the superhero genre.

"Justice League" was released on November 17.
