American Music Awards 2017: Christina Aguilera pays tribute to Whitney Houston

Aguilera herself seemed to be on cloud nine following the Houston medley that commemorated the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard.

The song (which must surely be top the list of most-butchered at karaoke bars globally) was always in safe hands with the titanic-voiced Aguilera, although the internet is questioning whether her old arch nemesis P!nk thought so.

Aguilera closed the medley with a rendition of "I'm Every Woman", bringing the crowd to their feet as she performed with a choir. The movie's soundtrack was released prior to the film and is the top-selling soundtrack of all time.

While many are going after Aguilera for what they deemed a lackluster performance, a few reasonable voices point to this simple fact - Houston's talent was incomparable, and it is probably impossible to find another vocalist who can sing and deliver the raw emotions that she was known for.

"Yes. THIS. Christina f-king killed it tonight for one of our favorite singers ever". She then asked all of the "negative Nancy's" who were still caught up in the feud to look at "the clip where [she's] in tears".

"I love Selena Gomez but she made it so obvious that she lip sync through that whole performance hence why she had her head down & hair covering her face for 99% of the performance, " a Twitter user shared.

A fan of Houston said this about the performance: "Okay, I'm watching the awards now... the cameraman shady though but, we all know #christinaaguilera can blow!"

CHRISTINA Aguilera hit something of a bum note with her much-hyped Whitney Houston tribute at today's American Music Awards - and one former musical rival stole the show with an instantly viral reaction shot.
