Iran end group stage in style

Iran continued their sublime form in the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup as they beat Costa Rica 3-0 in the last Group C encounter to register their third straight win in the competition.

Costa Rica, who lost to Germany in their opening match, have one point after they drew against Guinea, and now need to win to make it to the knockout round.

Even a draw may see Germany through to the Round of 16 but they would want a win against Guinea as that will give them some confidence which has been shattered by Iran. Germany only took nine minutes to take the lead in the game, with captain Jann-Fiete Arp scoring the goal from a defensive mistake from the Guinean defence.

Guinea kicked off the second half and started it strongly as they had ended the first half, but slowly Germany got hold of the match and started to attack relentlessly.

The coach also hailed young keeper Camara for his wonderful performance and added: "The goals were due to the errors from the defence, and am happy with the keeper's performance in the tournament".

As they pack their bags, Camacho reflected, "Overall, I think we shouldn't have lost the match against Germany and against Guinea we played quite well a very physical team like Guinea".

Iran will definitely miss the services of Mohammad Ghobeishavi for their round of 16 clash as he received the second yellow card in the last three games, that hands him a one-match suspension.

"There are some days when nothing works out, so we knew we had to take something from this game, we knew we had to do something different", said Arp, the Hamburg striker in the Bundesliga.

The problem for Costa Rica is that they are playing against Iran - a team that has surpassed and shocked most in Goa. "Our defence has done a good job till now and we hope they will continue to do the same in the play-offs as well", said Chamanian.

"We should not get carried away with the victory against the Germans and instead focus on Costa Rica who always look risky in front of the goal with their skillful play", he added. Against Costa Rica we won 2-1, but we could have scored five or six more. The German coach hailed the pitch at Kochi and said the "pitch could be compared to European standards, and the players were able to play better here".

"Colombia is a very good team, and we saw their last game on the TV yesterday". First of all we have to sleep. By topping the group, they also made sure they stay in Goa for their round of 16 match on October 17.
