The Karbonn A40 Indian is the first phone launched in a partnership between the two companies and this is priced at Rs. 2899, though Airtel claims that the effective price is Rs. 1399. Those making the 36 recharge will get a refund of Rs 500 after the first 18 months and a further Rs 1,000 refund after the next 18 months.
Consumers can go in for recharge of any denomination and validity as per individual requirements in case they do not want to go for Rs 169 bundled plan under offer. However, to claim the cash refund benefit, recharges worth Rs 3,000 must be done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund installment of Rs 500) and another Rs 3,000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund installment of Rs 1,000). Besides, it also comes with Dual SIM slots inside which you can put SIM card of any network operator you wish to, unlike JioPhone which is locked to Jio's network.
Monthly recharges at the end of three years plus the initial down payment takes the total to Rs 8983.
Now the good part about the Karbonn A40 Indian is that Airtel is offering the phone at a special price with bundled offers.
The phone will be available on all leading retail stores across the country and after-sales service will be provided by Karbonn mobiles.
Airtel's 4G smartphone is bundled with a monthly pack of Rs 169, which offers data and call benefits.
Airtel will be competing with Reliance Jio and BSNL in the 4G phone space.
Airtel says the Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone will be "completely with the customer, and there is no need to return the device to Airtel/ Karbonn at any point to claim the cash benefit".
While the JioPhone has to be returned to get the Rs. 1,500 cashback, the Airtel 4G Phone users keep the device with them even after claiming the cashback amount. The "cash refunds" will be made in the form of payments to the user's Airtel Payments Bank account.
In terms of hardware, the Karbonn A40 Indian comes with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz.
Raj Pudipeddi, Director - Consumer Business & CMO, Bharti Airtel said, "As the market leader and pioneer of 4G services in India, Airtel's aspiration is to digitally empower every Indian with high speed data access". We are delighted to partner with Karbonn to remove barriers to smartphone adoption and enable millions of Indians to leapfrog to a full touchscreen smartphone experience. It has got a 1400 mAh battery and runs on Android Nougat OS.
It has a built-in storage memory of 8 GB, which can be supplemented by a 32 GB micro-SD card.
