Last season, Kaepernick threw for 2,241 yards and 16 touchdowns in 12 games.

"I want to dedicate this song to Colin Kaepernick tonight".

While football is as American as apple pie, white picket fences and law enforcement killing unarmed black people, this season has been shrouded with controversy or at the very least several side eyes from fans and activists over Colin Kaepernick not having an NFL team to call home due to his silent protest of the National Anthem.

"I want to dedicate this song to anyone that was held back and you overcame", Jay Z said. Ahead of the 2017 season, supporters protested the Kaepernick's perceived blackballing by the league outside the NFL's Manhattan headquarters. Jay-Z said he wanted to transform the show into rock "n" roll territory when he played his collaborations with Linkin Park, even paying tribute to the band's lead singer Chester Bennington, who hanged himself in July.

"The power of one voice is strong, but when it comes to social justice, the power of our collective voices is unstoppable". However, he didn't have to get political to cut to the genuine reality of the Kaepernick issue. "When we are able to identify that we are all not ideal and have compassion for someone else, we can move forward as a society".

Kaepernick remains a free agent since opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March. He has donated $100,000 per month to various charities, as part of a $1 million pledge he made in 2016. "I've always watched him and admired him, the way that he's played".
