Russian Federation: A couple suspected of cannibalism


Dmitry Bakshaev, 35, and his wife Natalia, 42, have confessed to the crimes, reports Russian media.

A couple from the Russian region of Krasnodar has been taken into custody on suspicion of murdering and eating up to 30 people over a period of almost twenty years, local media report, citing police.

The man was detained earlier in September after the remains of a woman were found in a military dormitory.

Since the couple's detention, Natalia underwent psychiatric tests, with the wife judged to be 'mentally healthy'.

According to Habertürk, during raid on house by police, re were also some human flesh hiding in jars.

The couple was immediately arrested and "fragments of the body placed in a saline solution" were seized during a search warrant at their home. Further, detectives discovered a cellphone filled with incriminating "selfie" photos of the male suspect with a deceased woman.

Local media told of the pair using ether and a Russian drug Corvalol (main substance is Phenobarbital) to make their victims sleep.

A couple suspected to have killed a woman, apparently for the eat, has been arrested in the south of the Russia after having been confused by selfies with the pieces of the dismembered body, announced Monday the Russian authorities.

A worker said: 'Each time we tried to enter their room, they started wild shouting and crying.

Investigative committee official Smyatskaya added that the initial criminal investigation is into the death of one woman.

Investigator Natalia Smyatskaya said that they were looking into other murders to see if they were linked.
