They will hope to maintain the momentum against the Shakhtar but Guardiola expects a tough test from the Ukrainian champions. Napoli are one of the three or four or five best teams at playing football. They asked for time to sort out the transfers and said we'll speak after.

Pep Guardiola will be without Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan for Tuesday's Champions League match with Shakhtar Donetsk. The smiles were on our faces last season too.

'I never say I make a better Sergio than the others, ' added Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola's men have scored 16 goals in their last three games and 21 in all and here, we look back at the most prolific seasons in Premier League history. We're at home in the next two games against them and can take a big step towards the knockout round.

Guardiola feels his squad is in better shape this time around but still has ample room for improvement.

The England global, who moved from Tottenham in the summer in a £45million, says the pressure from a strong squad is keeping the players on their toes and that if standards slip, they will be out of the side. [At Barcelona and Bayern] it was easy to defend our ideas because we won a lot of titles.

"We are going to test and see if Benjamin Mendy is able to play".

"So we have to keep doing that".

"[Pep] is improving me as a player".

Ilkay Gundogan has returned to light training following his injury against West Brom (knee), but Tuesday may come too soon for the Germany global.

The comments came shortly after the Citizens hammered Crystal Palace by a 5-0 scoreline.

City's 6-1 derby win in October proved to be as crucial as it was memorable - two goals from Dzeko and one from David Silva from the 89th minute onwards seemed at the time cosmetic additions to the scoreline, but ultimately helped clinch a first league title of the Premier League era on goal difference alone from United.

Guardiola said they can not take Shakhtar lightly and that it is strong group with Dutch champions Feyenoord also in the mix.

'It will be the eighth time I play against Shakhtar in my career, so far I have once in the Super Cup and six times in the Champions League. In the outstanding Fred they have a footballer recently cited by his own manager as the best Brazilian midfielder now playing the game.

"We have to be prepared for that because they are a risky team". They do have a poor record in England - losing on five of their six trips - but they have won their last five European away games.
