Jennifer Lopez I'm Donating a Mil to Puerto Rico ... After Hurricane Maria

Hurricane Maria's destruction has set the island back decades, even as authorities worked to assess the extent of the damage, Puerto Rico's nonvoting representative in the U.S. Congress said on Sunday, according to The Associated Press.

"What's foremost on my mind and many others is trying to figure out the best way to help", she said. Proceeds will come from her Las Vegas shows, The Hollywood Reporter stated.

Forecasters say Hurricane Maria is causing risky surf and rip currents along the East Coast of the US after the storm devastated Puerto Rico.

Lopez is also working with boyfriend Alex Rodriguez to raise money for Puerto Rico. Another coordinated effort with Mark Cuban and Dallas Mavericks player J.J. Barea will send two airplanes filled with supplies to San Juan when approved. The devastation is beyond belief. "Me and my cousins have not been able to hear from family down there. Hurricane Maria has devastated our island", she said. Maria's 155-mph winds ripped trees from the ground, tore roofs from buildings, and caused massive flooding.

"Agriculture is the most vulnerable sector to natural disasters", Carlos Flores Ortega, secretary agriculture for Puerto Rico, told The NYT.

"We still need some more help. As Minnesotans, we're coming together as a united community to bridge the distance between us and Puerto Rico", said Senator Melisa Franzen in a written statement, who was raised in Puerto Rico.

"Our focus and priority continues to be on the safety and health of our employees and the recovery efforts for all the families of Puerto Rico", said Crowley's John Hourihan, senior vice president and general manager, Puerto Rico services.

The Star Wars: The Last Jedi actor then went on to urge fans to make a donation to Unidos for Puerto Rico. Even though the storm system won't make landfall on the USA, we still could see impacts.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred and New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner have both committed to giving a "significant" contribution, Lopez said.
