Lopez arrived in Puerto Rico from Las Vegas to join NY governor Andrew Cuomo at a press conference, where she announced the donation and further plans to provide aid.

Andrew Cuomo said at a press conference on Sunday at New York's Javits Center, "and that will have to be done by the federal government".

"Puerto Ricans are American citizens and today Puerto Ricans need our help", said Lopez. Aside from her hefty donation, she also shared that she has been working with boyfriend Alex Rodriguez to "garner support" for victims of Hurricane Maria.

At the press conference, Lopez revealed that she still hadn't heard from her family and shared her concern for her loved ones and "everyone on the island".

Gov. Cuomo teamed up with some high-profile celebrities Sunday to bring attention to the devastation in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico has been home to the Bacardi rum distillery since 1936 where the company produces its namesake brand. "Together, we can help rebuild our island and the Caribbean".

Velazquez, who on Friday traveled with Cuomo to Puerto Rico on a relief flight to deliver essential supplies, also gave an account of just how severe the damage is on the ground.

An emotional Lopez spoke first in Spanish, talking about how Hurricane Maria has ravaged the island, and calling on everyone to get involved in helping to rebuild.

"Nobody said no", she said.

"We're working closely with government agencies and not-for-profit partners to identify the most pressing needs so we can provide meaningful support".

Cuomo also announced that he'll be launching a state effort to help Puerto Rico which will encourage NY residents to donate goods as well as raise funds from the business community for organizations in Puerto Rico.
