Note that you need to have completed the Destiny 2 story campaign and reached level 20 to see them. There are many activities that the players can do upon joining a faction like attending public events, exploring Lost Sectors, completing strikes, competing in the Crucible and clearing the raid, among others.

"Each of the factions of the Tower is having a rally to collect resources for its cause".

Destiny 2 has launched for consoles and Bungie has made sure that the game runs at a smooth 30 FPS on both consoles, however, the Xbox One version of Destiny 2 is facing some performance issues as some players have reported that they are experiencing dramatic Destiny 2 FPS drops during some of the events.

By helping your faction out, you'll be rewarded with faction tokens you can use to unlock packages full of loot.

As detailed on Bungie's blog post, the event will let you pledge your allegiance to one of three factions from the first game: Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, or New Monarchy. Members of each faction should gather their own supplies and at the same time, plan their moves to bring down their opponents. At the end of the week, the faction that has gotten the most done will be declared the victor, and the members of that faction will be rewarded with a special gun.

If you pledge yourself to the winning faction, its weapon will be available for 1,000 Glimmer. There's a competitive side of this too. Dead Orbit is offering a Scout Rifle, Future War Cult has a colorful Pulse Rifle, and New Monarchy has a Sidearm.

If you want to get specific, the panel will include Bungie World Lead developer Steve Cotton, art director Jesse van Dijk and World Art Lead Jason Sussman. At 10 AM that same day, the winning faction will be announced. This Week at Bungie makes no mention of a recurring time frame, only that it ends on October 3.
