Cop martyred in Anantnag, two terrorists killed in Sopore, Shopian


Terrorists fired indiscriminately on the police personnel near the general bus stand Anantnag, the official said. Earlier, a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Reban village outside the town of Sopore.

Ahead of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's visit, terrorists riding motorcycles attacked the police with automatic weapons leaving one police officer dead and another injured. "Martyr left behind aged parents, sister, two brothers - one of them disabled", Jammu and Kashmir Police tweeted.

"Acting on a specific information regarding the presence of terrorists, Sopore police along with 22 RR, 179, 92 Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Dangerpora Reben area in the jurisdiction of Police Station Sopore". Singh met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar on Saturday.

A fire fight between militants and forces was also raging in Burbugh village of Imam Sahib area in southern Shopian district.

Immediately after the terrorists attack, the entire area has been surrounded by the security forces and an intensive search operation was on to either nab or neutralise the terrorists responsible for the attack.

Hours before the Hurriyat leaders were scheduled to fly to Delhi to protest before NIA headquarters, authorities have arrested them citing that the leaders were mobilizing people for rally to create law and order problem in the summer capital. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house again on Friday, while Muhammad Yasin Malik has been lodged in the city's Central Jail.
