Mauricio Pochettino, Manager of Tottenham Hotspur looks on prior to the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur at St. James Park on August 13, 2017 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Pochettino's side have struggled at the national stadium in recent times, including in their bad Champions League campaign previous year where they did not make it out of the group stage.

Gary Jacob reported for the Times that Rose will make his case to leave Tottenham if Chelsea make a firm offer for his services, although a move to Old Trafford also interests the former Leeds United defender.

Edwards, 18, has only earned one senior appearance for Tottenham, but Hoddle reckons that he should be given further chances to show his capabilities with the current first-team squad looking incredibly thin ahead of Sunday's visit to Newcastle.

The Tottenham full-back - linked with Manchester United and Chelsea - also urged Mauricio Pochettino's men to sign stars and not players you have to Google to find out who they are.

Benitez may have wanted more, but he must now take his squad into a tough season opener against Tottenham Hotspur, who finished second in the Premier League table last season. It would lift me seeing a top player come through the door.

Harry Kane again recorded phenomenal goal-scoring stats last season, hitting 29 in 30 league appearances, providing seven assists to boot.

He later released a statement apologising for the ill-timed nature of his comments, but the interview - during which he revealed he would "play up north" at some point in his career - would have pricked the attention of Mourinho, who has been keeping an eye on Rose this summer. "He showed in the U.S. that he was ready to play", Pochettino said.

The Daily Telegraph's chief sports writer Paul Hayward agreed, admitting that Spurs do not compete with the top clubs in the Premier League when it comes to wages.

In Spurs' last visit to St James' Park, they were on the end of a 5-1 defeat that saw them slip behind bitter rivals Arsenal in the table on the final day of the 2015/16 Premier League season. Offensively, Tottenham will depend on Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son to score goals, with Christian Eriksen providing service.

The club still has time to act in the transfer window, but if it doesn't then Tottenham could be in trouble of moving backwards after a lot of hard work over the past few years.
