Defence spokesman in Jammu, Lt Colonel Manish Mehta, said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian posts along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district at around 5 pm.
The spokesman said army men effectively returned the fire from similar caliber weapons and the Pakistani guns fell silent at around 06.45 am.
In a separate incident from the LoC's Keran sector, an Army jawan was injured in a landmine explosion.
On Saturday morning, a civilian in Poonch lost his life after Pakistan resorted to shelling.
Around 0520 hours, mortar shells fired from across the border exploded near the house of Mohammad Shabir at Gohlad Kalran village, killing his wife Raqia Bi, a police officer said. It was strongly retaliated by troops and the firing stopped at 6.
"They remained confined to their homes and once the firing and shelling subsided, they moved to underground bunkers for safety", he said.
Sources said that the security forces have been cordoned of the area where two to three terrorists were hiding. Both the jawans were caught under firing on forward posts and shelling mortars along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
