From Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan to Govinda and Madhuri Dixit, Lagoo played mother to all the top actors and actresses of the Hindi film industry on the silver screen.

Lagoo began to play mothers in Bollywood at a time when the stereotype of Indian mothers changed from the eternally tragic figure who suffered for her children. Ms Lagoo had been taken to the Kokilaben Hospital at night after she complained of severe chest pain.

Her mortal remains were taken from the hospital to her Andheri West apartment at 10.45 a.m. And that's just another aspect to an actor who had survived in the industry for so long as she was ideal at her craft.

In her Bollywood career spanning over nearly four decades, Reema has been viewers' favourite on-screen mom.

Lagoo portrayed grey shades playing Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan's mother in the 1994 film Yeh Dillagi, and also while essaying mother to Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Mohnish Behl in the 1999 Rajshri release Hum Saath Saath Hain. On the show, Ashish was a puppet in the hands of his dominating mother Dayawanti Mehta played by Lagoo. Alok Nath, who worked with Reema in many films called it a bad news and stated that it was wonderful to work with her. "I pray that her soul rests in peace".

However, as the saying goes the show must go on, the makers had to quickly find the replacement of Reema Lagoo's character in Naamkarann.

Sudden death of a friend silences you. I hoped the series would get remade into a web one and we'd work together again. Her quintessential doting and cool mother roles and her smiling face will never fade away from memory and she will be always remembered for her performance. "Her demise is saddening", Modi tweeted. Denizens from the Marathi film and theatre world, like Supriya and Sachin Pilgaonkar, Shreyas Talpade, Ramesh Bhatkar, Suhita Thatte attended her last rites.

Lagoo was recently felicitated with the V Shantaram Award of the state government for her contribution in the film industry. "She was like a friend, who was just a little older". She used to pamper me a lot and was concerned about me on the sets.
