The 1-year-old was in a playpen, the baby was in a auto seat and the 22-month-old was in the cage. The cage wasn't tall enough for the boy to stand. He remained jailed Thursday without an attorney.
"That makeshift cage has been in that residence for some time", says Sgt. Fred Krute.
"I think something like this is so egregious that most people. would know to not put a kid in the cage regardless of what you think the good reason was".
Police and a representative from Schuylkill County Children & Youth responded to the house at 1:48 p.m. Wednesday at 316 Chestnut St., North Manheim Township, after the mother, Tiffany George, 25, said her daughter, to whom she had recently given birth, was home alone. Once she was at the hospital in Pottsville the staff wondered where her newborn baby was, officials arrived here to a shocking scene. The statement said Cornell's family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy. He told authorities he had left to visit his wife in the hospital, Krute said. - A newborn, a baby and a toddler were found home alone in Pennsylvania Wednesday.
The handmade cage had a mattress pad, children toys and food, authorities said.
"He says he would keep him there at night because he claimed he was crawling all over the place. He told me he's done it in the past, that it's not the first time he put him in that contraption", Robin told the AP.
According to investigators, Kutz's girlfriend delivered that baby girl at home on Tuesday and went to the hospital Wednesday morning after suffering complications. The children were placed in county custody.
Krute said the home was dirty, with an unfinished bathroom and exposed wiring.
The children were taken into custody by the state police and the then given to Children & Youth.
Police in Pennsylvania say a 22-month-old boy has been found locked inside a makeshift wooden cage while his day-old sister and 1-year-old brother were found alone in the same house. Cecil Kutz is charged with endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment.
Two other children - a one year-old boy and a one day-old girl - were also alone in the home.
