Paul Ryan warns against rushing to judgment on James Comey memo

Comey's memo was yet more bad news for the Republican party, which was still dealing with a Washington Post report from Monday night that alleged Trump had disclosed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov.

Trump removed Comey in the middle of a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into alleged Russian interference in the the 2016 US presidential election, and possible ties between Trump's campaign and Russia. "Our job is to get the facts and to be sober about doing that".

Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to help President Donald Trump out: He says he'll give Congress records of that controversial meeting Trump had with Russian envoys.

"What I told our members just this morning: We need the facts", the Wisconsin Republican said at a leadership press conference after holding a closed-door meeting with the House GOP Conference.

Congressional Oversight Committees and members of both parties are now asking to see Comey's notes on the Oval Office encounter. Trump told the Russians details of the plot that the US had received from a partner country. "I'm a person who wants to get the facts".

Mueller moved 2,000 agents from criminal investigations into counterterrorism and national security in his time leading the FBI.

It also asked the White House to provide records of interactions with Comey, including those "relating to the FBI's investigation of alleged ties between President Trump's associates and Russian Federation, or the Clinton email investigation, including all audio recordings, transcripts, notes, summaries, or memoranda", according to a statement.

Representative Trent Franks of Arizona said the party's agenda isn't in jeopardy and that an independent commission isn't needed to investigate the Russian Federation matter.

The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation to provide memos related to Comey's dealings with his superiors in the Trump and Obama administrations.

As the controversy swirled, Trump said in a speech to U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduates in CT he did not get elected "to serve the Washington media or special interests".

Lashing out after a high-powered special counsel was appointed to investigate events around the 2016 election, Trump denied he ever plotted with the Kremlin to win the White House. In a letter to acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe on Tuesday, the Republican chairman of a House of Representatives oversight committee, Jason Chaffetz, set a May 24 deadline for the FBI to produce all relevant material relating to any communications between Comey and Trump.

A key issue Mueller may have to tackle is whether Trump has committed obstruction of justice, an offence that could be used in any effort in the Republican-led Congress to impeach him and remove him from office.

Israeli intelligence agents were concerned that information given to Russian Federation could be passed on to Iran, it reported.

"Unfortunately the administration has given such conflicting information, the president's own tweets at times seem to contradict the statements made by staff", she said.

If Vladimir Putin sticks to his word and releases his copy of the transcript from the meeting, pressure could mount that forces the Trump administration to release their copy of the same meeting. "But whether it will be given any credibility - I can tell you its credibility would be less than zero", Schiff said. Senator Roy Blunt, a Missouri Republican, said Trump is still positioned to bring needed change to Washington.

For Republicans who had repeated the party line, Trump's contradiction was at best an embarrassment.

Senator Richard Blumenthal of CT, a member of the Judiciary Committee, called the memo as reported "powerful evidence of obstruction of justice".
