No price has been given for the Game of the Year edition as of yet.
The Game of the Year Edition will be part of an Overwatch Anniversary event kicking off on May 23 and ending June 12.
Blizzard is too happy with fan stories about the greater Overwatch lore to put forth its own, rigid version of events.
They also found encrypted files for three maps that could be new maps, reskinned maps or a mixture of the two.
In a bid to charm fans, the new unlocks include sitting and laughing emotes for Sombra and Orisa who weren't released when the first round of these casual actions were divvied out. The Eichenwalde, Antarctica, and Oasis maps were introduced.
On the other hand, a few aspects of this leak, as well as what we already know from the datamine, lead me to think that it won't happen - or, at least, the leak that said it would happen is fake.
To celebrate one of the most played first-person shooters today, which can easily brag about the player count of over 30 million people across the globe, Blizzard is celebrating Overwatch's upcoming one-year anniversary with the Overwatch Anniversary Event.
The only drawback is that players will need a PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold account to access the free weekend. This free play will give you the full roster of heroes and maps in select modes like Quick Play, Custom Games, and the current Weekly Brawl. Competitive play is not available to free weekend players. We've seen them launch comics and shorts, and at point in time there was even plans for a graphic novel which unfortunately was cancelled last November. If players decide to purchase a copy of Overwatch after the free weekend, they'll get to keep any progress made during the weekend. This edition includes everything the Overwatch: Origins Edition included like the cross-promotion items for other Blizzard Entertainment games.
The GotY edition will be replacing the Origins Edition and basically just contains 10 extra loot boxes in addition to what you would normally get with the Origins Edition.
