Thursday: The Cubs do not play. "They're playing their best baseball".

This year, there were no World Series ring ceremonies at Kauffman Stadium. With home-field advantage during the National League playoffs, the Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers to make it to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1945. That afternoon, the multi-screen wall in the hallway that leads from the Wrigley Field clubhouse to the home dugout showed an MLB Network segment comparing World Series hangovers between the Cubs and Cleveland Indians: "Which Team Are You More Concerned About Moving Forward?" Without his bat in the lineup, the Cubs probably do not win this game. It was a fitting end to a season that finally ended the Curse of the Billy Goat. "It forces our guys to realize that just bringing back a lot of the same guys on a really good team doesn't [make it] just happen overnight". He signed an eight-year, $184 million free agent contract with Chicago in December 2015.

The Brewers (8-6) went deep for the ninth game in a row as a team, getting long balls from Braun, Thames and Jett Bandy.

All three players played roles in the historic championship season. But it was a special trip that we did as a group, as family, as a brotherhood past year. "He did a nice job". The Cubs defeated the Brewers 7-4.

NY got five hits the first time through the order, all on line drives to the outfield. The hit scored Jason Heyward and Miguel Montero, who had led off with singles.

Orioles 2, Reds 0 • Ubaldo Jimenez pitched into the eighth inning, allowing only two hits, and was backed by RBIs from Jonathan Schoop and Manny Machado as Baltimore won on the road. LH Jon Lester vs. RH Tim Adleman.

Tommy Milone, who came into the day with a 7.36 ERA in three appearances, finally produced a strong outing on the mound.

Athletics 9, Rangers 1 • Khris Davis hit his seventh homer of the season to key Oakland's romp at home.

If there is a silver lining, the other expected contenders in the division have also struggled out of the gate. Miami's Edinson Volquez (0-2) barely made it through three innings, giving up four runs, five hits and four walks.

The home run had an exit velocity of 109 miles per hour and went 375 feet into the bleachers.
